Band Handbook
The 2008-2009 band handbook is available for your reference. All band students will receive a hard copy of the handbook during the first week of school. The signed parent slip of the handbook is due by September 12

Band Concert Rescheduled!

Band Spring Concert on May 21 is CANCELLED and RESCHEDULED to Wednesday, June 3 at 7pm in the LHMS gym.

 Travel To: Busch Gardens; Williamsburg, VA

 Band Student Arrival Time: 4:45 AM

 Arrival Place:  Langston Hughes Middle School Cafeteria

 Bus Departure: 5:15 AM (WILL NOT WAIT FOR LATE STUDENTS)

 Concert Dress: Black pants (or long skirts for girls), white wing-tip tuxedo shirt, black dress shoes and socks, bow tie/cummerbund

 What you MUST bring: Instrument and Music, change of clothes for the park (LHMS band t-shirt is the MANDATORY top), including comfortable sneakers!

 What you can bring: Rain wear, jackets, Ipod/MP3 player with head phones, pillow, blanket, turned off cell phones & snacks. Remember the school, teachers, bus driver and bus company are NOT responsible for any stolen or lost personal items.

 Food and Spending Money:  Food is not provided during the day at Busch Gardens.   Please bring a bagged lunch and/or snacks from home.  You may also want to bring extra spending money for the park for snacks/souvenirs.  Money needed per student: approximately $25 for lunch & dinner. More if souvenirs are purchased.

 Return time to the school: Approximately 11:30 p.m-12:00 a.m.  Please be prompt in picking up your child.

 Timeline for Friday, May 15, 2009

 4:45 AM— Students arrive at LHMS (report to cafeteria).  All students should be dressed in concert attire (black bottom, white wing-tip tuxedo shirt, bowtie/cummerbund, black shoes (dress shoes preferably) and socks) and carrying their instruments when arriving at school

 5:00 AM— Students load buses

 5:15 AM—Depart LHMS (WILL NOT WAIT FOR LATE STUDENTS!)

 8:15 AM— Students arrive at performance site—Jamestown, HS; 3751 John Tyler Hwy

 8:45 AM — LHMS Concert Band warm-up

9:05 AM — LHMS Concert Band performance

9:25 AM — LHMS Symphonic Band warm-up

9:45 AM — LHMS Symphonic Band performance

 10:30AM (approximately)—Depart performance site

 11:00 AM (approximately)—Arrive at Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, VA

 3:00 PM— Chaperone check-in #1 (area TBD)

 6:00 PM—Chaperone check-in #2. All LHMS band students will walk together to the awards ceremony, and sit with the rest of the LHMS music students.

 6:30PM—Awards Ceremony – Royal Palace Theatre - France

 7:00 PM – Return to Park

 8:00 PM— Meet chaperones to walk back to buses

 8:30 PM — Buses depart for LHMS

 Between 11:30 PM and 12:00 AM— Arrive at LHMS – students will call parents approximately 15-20 minutes before arriving back to LHMS
